Month: March

News From Mrs. Rinella, Principal

Can you believe it is already March? March will be a busy month. Daylight savings time ends Sunday, March 11th and Spring begins Monday, March 20th. We are looking forward to longer hours of daylight and warmer days! Included in this newsletter are current CES Happenings and Tips for Parent Involvement.

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Debbie Jones as being recognized as one of Lynchburg Living’s Top Teachers. We’re proud of her! She has taught 1st grade for 13 years and Kindergarten for 21 years. You may read more about Mrs. Jones in the Lynchburg Living’s Magazine March/April issue.

Thank you to all of our families who attended our recent Winter STEM Night and Parent/Teacher Conferences. Parent involvement can mean many things. Research shows that supporting your child at home is just as important if not more important than only volunteering at school.

Having meaningful conversations with your child about their day will not only keep you informed about what is going on at school, but also give you some important time together with your child(ren). Asking your child what he/she did at school will likely result in a classic response, “Nothing.” We’ve included some questions/suggestions that may help in having more engaging conversations and opportunities for activities that you can to together. These have been adapted from Home & School Connections: Working Together for School Success.

  •   Tell me what you learned today that you’d like to know more about.

  •   What’s the coolest thing that happened? What wasn’t cool?

  •   Describe a book you enjoyed today.

  •   What was the most creative thing you did?

  •   On Thursday’s when Thursday Folders come home, sit down with your child and look at the completed work that was brought home.

News From Mr. Wells, Assistant Principal

It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the month of March! With the anticipation of warm weather, more day light, and spring sports; it’s important we keep learning in the forefront of our minds.

This month, our students will participate in the final round of MAP testing. This round of testing, as with any testing, is very important as we will look to see if students have met their yearly growth goal in reading and math. I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions about their progress. MAP reports will be sent home with student report cards on March 21st. I am confident our students can reach any goal they set for themselves! Surf’s Up!

Classroom Guidance: Recently our classroom guidance lessons focused on careers. We explored everything from the role of community helpers to understanding the relationship between academics and careers, identifying personal interests, and developing an awareness of the 16 career clusters. To explore careers and information about colleges, and training after high school, have a look at the Virginia View career website. They have information for students and parents

“C” Team Our second semester “C” Team members have been working hard around the school in various jobs. These students are teachers' helpers, book buddies, library assistants, flag bearers, mail carriers, and hall monitors. They help make our school a better place. Thank you "C" Team
